In general, I believe that the way Michigan currently taxes income overly burdens those who make less annually. A flat tax of 4.25%, although at first glance fair, puts more strain on lower-income households. It is easier for someone who makes $200,000+ per year to pay a 4.25% income tax and still have plenty left over for other expenses than for someone who makes $40,000 or less. I would support implementing a graduated income tax that would ease the burden on working families and have wealthier Michiganders pay their fair share. |

In general, I support reducing government regulation in how small businesses are allowed to operate outside of important environmental, healthcare, and employee protection regulations. I believe that it should be easier for entrepreneurs to start up small businesses in the state and am in favor of cutting back certain red-tape regulations that prevent them from doing so, but stand firm on those other regulations I mentioned. |

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, any additional priorities of your campaign that have not been covered in these questions. | |||
My top legislative priority is addressing income inequality in Michigan. It is the root of so many other problems in this state. I believe that income taxes need to be implemented on a graduated scale which would help even the playing field in Michigan, help fund critical infrastructure and programs to help level the playing field. I would also support an inheritance tax and a state capital gains tax to help fund these equalizing programs. |
